History
The origins of this species were discovered in the University of Singapore in 1999 by Dr. Zhiyuan Gong, who thought "one day the fish could be used to determine when a waterway was contaminated." (FC. Alan Blake)The objective of this experiment was to create fish that would fluorescent the majority of time, therefore the experimental lab took place. The lab depended on extracting the green fluorescent protein from a jelly fish and injected the gene into a Zebra Fish embryo. Since that scientific discovery was expose, it started to become popular in the market as GloFish pet. Later the discovery there were complains from environmental groups about selling GMO Glowfish as pets, consequently they were banned from the market. Causing conflicts and doubts between the media and the scientists, it had lately explain that the GMO doesn't contain any toxic mutation transforming this fish as dangerous, if not this fish had being proven that it naturally produces itself containing that gene. Now days this GMO is applied for environmental sources and also as marketing.
